Thing # 23 YES!!!, I did it

The whole experience has being great, really like it, I will do it again and again.

My favorite experience is that I finally made my Blog, Yes!!, after years of thinking and being afraid to do it.

Of course this program assisted me in my goals by making me do things I usually not do or do it one out a time.

The big surprises for me are the millions of people that are ahead of me in tech knowledge.

What I do different about this program is:

I will make everybody know in the district about it, advertised trough emails, Principals A. Principals, coaches, SIS, CTR'S, Ed Tech,. Activboard trainers in order to make sure everybody knows about it.

I WILL DO IT AGAIN.

My learning experience in one sentence, "The New Vision of Technology"

Thing # 22 Nings

Ning, Another social network or an online service to help you create your own social network and let join other networks with same interest, Perfect for me, I will need more than 24 hours a day to keep track of every thing I do, But its worth it, I really like everything I see and I learning alot. I tried teacher lingo or Ning for teachers , another wonderful place for finding blogs, teacher stuff, etc...

Thing # 21Podcasts, videocasts

I like photostory, I didnt know I had it on my laptop another check plus for library2play

The use of pod cast and video cast in our schools, teachers can make lessons that other teachers could use in their classrooms, students can also share info with other students in their schools or with students in another school, city around the world.

Thing # 20 Youtube and Teachertube

I can see the light at the end of the road , like videos, enjoyed watching videos (all kinds), embedded one and download and upload another.
The benefit of having these kind of resources in class is enormous, first class experience for children, some of them without experience or access to information, we as teachers are the source and we need the tools to deliver instruction.

First one is about teaching Tech to students:

The Second one is a fun Math problem from Abbot and Costello,

Last but not least here is Zambar another way to watch block videos

Thing # 19 Web 2.O Awards list

Here is the complete list in case that you want to check them later:

Web 2.o Award list

I do have my favorites, here are some:

Delicious, google docs, monster, career builder, wiki spaces, google earth, yahoo maps, technorati, my library thing, Rollyo, google blog search, flicr, etc.............

All the links are above on the web 2.o award list.

I think, in my personal opinion if we do want to use these technology in our schools we need new equipment for our libraries and classrooms (students), I know its coming, but very slow, there are plenty of different ways, deppending on the site that teachers librarians will use and others that we are using right now like google docs.

Thing # 18 Online Productivity tool platforms

I used Google Docs for doing an inventory, share presentations, specially if someone is away of the office or in another place, love it, perfect to work from home
You don't need office in you computer, therefore cheaper.

On the other hand if you don't have Internet or you like to work offline, the only option is to have the Office software on your computer.

About the other options open source or open office I haven't use tried, I'm not sure about download software in my work laptop, maybe latter.

Thing # 17 Rollyo

Rollyo a custom search engine that you can make or use somebody Else's creation, Great, specially in Education where you could make it safe for our students just by including your trusted websites.
My search roll is called 2nd grade science, which I will use starting next month probably maybe sooner. I can wait to share this info.

Thing # 16 Wikis

A Wiki is a webiste that uses editing applications allowing different people (users) to create webpages and interlinked documents.

I will use wikis with my teachers and students, with my teachers collaborating on making our 9 weeks road map, that will be a good one. Another making lesson plans, and with my students, making a collaborate search project by teams. Where one student is looking for one topic or a part of the assignment and the others are doing something different, and one is making sure that everything blends together, so that the team make a final project.

Remember:

You can make your own free wiki page, if you are a teacher of course on:

http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers

Thing # 15 WEB 2.O

In one word = Collaboration; These is the beginning of the new era, and Technology is everything, even if you don't use it or know about it, will work for you. Technology has become the most important man tool., and for libraries and librarians is sharing, searching, availability, collaborating, etc....

Where are we? I thing our libraries are getting obsolete, new tech tools had to come and will come if we want the best for our children.

Love this video A vision of students by teacher tube

Thing # 14 Technorati and Tags

Technorati very good for blog searching engine , I searched for some Tech blogs, know where to look now, I founded 166 results when I typed school library learning 2.o.
Registered and Tag the site while I was there, claimed and ping my blog and found some interesting videos.

Thing # 13 Tags and Delicious

I like tagging, its an easy way to find things, of course it took me some time to understand its purpose. Delicious I had finally sign up after a few hours of thinking, I have a hard time deciding on register or not to a new site, specially if they ask to download something, which I did.
Always remember or write where in the computer you are saving something, specially if not sure about it.
I can see in the future a lot of success for this kind of new tech love it! in my school I will try to share it with my teachers, finally a good way to organize my favorites. YES!!!!!!!!

Thing # 12 Commenting

Besides making my 7 comments 5 within library2 play ans more ourside.
I Think what I learned is to be truthful and meaninful and the most important if you want to received, first you need to give, so start posting if you want people to post on your blog, and remember Its not harm to ask for a post, specially if you say or type the magic word.

PLEASE!!! and Thank you.

Thing # 11 Librarything

I love books!, all kinds, most of the books I read are children and Technology books, maybe because I'm a teacher, but I have my all times favorites.
I see people using library thing for personal purposes and not for work, but getting reviews from books its great, I see librarians finding a good use for this site.
I listed some books, and the groups from classic books are the ones I'm interested in.

Thing # 10 Image Generator

A lot of fun I had playing with Comic Strip Generator and Image Chef
Both are wonderful, and can be used to make class or library posters, images can also be used to make flipcharts.

Thing # 9 News Feeds

I just started to like this new for me Blogging thing!, there is plenty of different kinds of blogs, I didnt know that were so many on politics.
Of course Google search the best and easier for me, like Technorati, I didnt know were to begin with Sindic8.
I really recommend Atomic Learning for any Technology that you want to know about, contact your Librarian for Password.

Thing # 8 RSS Feeds and Readers

What I like the most about RSS Feeds and Readers is that you have the Information at your feet and not all the way around. You can choose what and when to read.

My search for information will be easier, and our library can suscribe to bookstores and magazines in order to be updated with news and new books avaliable.

Teachers could learn from eachother and know whats new on the market to help you become a better teacher.

Thing # 7 Google

Well I usually google at least once a day, the tools that I like the most besides the searching tools (Info or pictures) which I use every day for educational and personal purposes are:

Google Earth I will never forget the first time I see the picture of my parents house in Mexico or mine in Houston, or the time I check the picture of the hotel I was going for vacation and I check on the size of their swimming pool and compare it to other hotels.

Google Docs, the perfect tool for sharing documents, which I had with the Ed tech dept. ( inventories and trainings), a Grant application with my teammates and I believe you can also share your lesson plans or make them together with a share documents.

Thing # 6

I'm amazed and overwhelmed of all tools, websites, toys, and utilities you can use for your students benefit.
Ofcourse they probalby know more than we do.
And about using these tools on your school and library, maybe you could make book trading cards including a summary to share with other students to make them interested in reading just to mention one thing.

Thing # 5 Flickr

Wow! I didn't know that Yahoo or Google images had any restrictions (Copyrights).
I found very interesting how people are sharing pictures these days.
Every time I do an image search on the internet 90% or more a Flickr picture appear on the search results, which makes that Image Hosting Site one of the best ones.

Here are 2 wonderful pictures, one of a Mockingbird (Birds) and the other of a cloud (Weather), which are 2 of the science units.

Thing # 3

Creating my own blog and posting experience was very easy as I got all the right steps, I can't say the same thing about adding the avatar to my blog, but I thing I finally got it after hours of failing.

One of my goals is to keep using this blog and learn from it.

Thing # 2

Lifelong learner, its a process of pursuing a goal for personal or profesional purposes.

In this case, improving my tech skills, learning about blogs, wikis and 21st century skills.

writing a contract for doing something makes you aware and responsible for it, therefore easier to reach goals.

The hardest Habit for me is number 3, sometimes I see problems as problems and not as a chalenges or learning opportunities.
